Midwest Energy Association & CERTPOINT Create Training Portal to Provide Online Learning and Certification to Energy and Utility Companies

LONG ISLAND, N.Y., April 22, 2002 - Vuepoint, a comprehensive eLearning provider that allows global enterprises to rapidly channel proprietary knowledge to the entire value chain, announced today Midwest Energy Association (MEA), a leading energy association with over 300 member companies, has chosen the Vuepoint Learning System (VLS) 3.0 to create the first online utility technical training portal for the energy industry. The purpose of the portal is to provide customized, industry-specific and cost-effective online training and certification to members' employees.

Utilizing VLS, MEA has rolled out its first offering, an online test for energy and utility operators who need certification to comply with a Department of Transportation operator qualification regulation. Developed by a consortium of 150 energy and utility companies, the test, available at www.oqforall.com, allows for certification of personnel performing covered tasks by the October 2002 deadline. Over the next six months, MEA will author and deploy additional courses to meet federal regulations, as well as those focused on human resources and soft skills development.

"This portal is the first eLearning system available to all energy and utility companies that provides fast and affordable training focused on our particular sector," said Ric Hinkie, MEA President. "Vuepoint's sophisticated software, combined with our industry expertise, is enabling us to quickly deploy proprietary information and bring real value to our customers."

MEA selected VLS, a complete eLearning package that includes a learning content management system (LCMS), learning management system (LMS), and eCollaboration technology as its eLearning system for the portal due to the ease and speed with which courses can be authored and deployed, as well as the flexibility and support of the CERTPOINT team. With VLS, MEA can quickly and easily author and deploy proprietary and industry-specific courses in a matter of days.

Benefits of VLS to the portal's clients and MEA members include the ability to customize course content to fit the particular needs of the company as well as the user. The pre-assessment functionality of VLS is also valuable in providing a customized learning experience. This feature can gauge whether an operator's level of knowledge meets certification, thus allowing him or her to avoid testing and save time on the job. Additionally, learners can take a test to skip areas that he or she did well on, and instead focus on the areas that require improvement. Other benefits include learner interactivity with the courses, enhanced with flash and other graphics, and the ability to publish course materials on CD-Rom and for a traditional instructor-led training.

"In an industry as complex and volatile as energy, companies need courses written by experts, rather than generic content," said Ara Ohanian, CEO and Founder of Vuepoint. "Vuepoint's system enables subject matter experts and non-technical staff to author and deploy courses in a matter of days, bringing faster and easier content dissemination and rapid cost savings, as well as flexibility."
