CERTPOINT - Learning Objects, LCMS and LMS Hot Topics in Vuepoint E-Learning Summit 2001 Facilitated By Industry Expert Brandon Hall

... Toyota, 3Com, The Hartford, Deloitte Consulting, A.T. Kearney and GlaxoSmithKline Discussed Best Practices and Tuned into Vuepoint's and Brandon Hall's Thoughts on the Future...

LONG ISLAND, N.Y., June 26, 2001 - Vuepoint, a business-savvy e-learning company providing a single platform for learning content management and learning management systems, reports key highlights today from Vuepoint E-Learning Summit 2001, facilitated by e-learning expert Brandon Hall and held last week in New York City. Global leaders Toyota, 3Com, The Hartford, Fisher Scientific, Deloitte Consulting, A.T. Kearney, GlaxoSmithKline and Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation shared successes and best practices, and Vuepoint and Brandon Hall, Ph.D., CEO and lead researcher of Brandon-Hall.com, facilitated discussions about hot e-learning topics.

"It was extremely beneficial to learn about best practices in other e-learning organizations and to discuss timely issues and trends with high-level industry peers," said Doug Willner, Director of Leadership and Development at GlaxoSmithKline.

Prior to the summit, Vuepoint interactively interviewed users via its Web site. Through an online comment feature, they received feedback and questions from Dr. Hall, and data gleaned from these interviews was transformed into customer case studies that served as the main focus of the summit's presentations. Dr. Hall also addressed attendees with comments about his view on the evolution of e-learning and compared it to the evolution of industries in supply chain management and customer relationship management in which different areas of the organization became streamlined by a single software platform such as SAP and Oracle. Dr. Hall stated that areas such as e-learning, knowledge management and human resources could take a similar path by converging into a single industry. Vuepoint added that marketing would also come into the fold as it relates to the education of customers and channel partners.

Vuepoint led a discussion on the overlap in numerous capabilities of learning content management systems (LCMS) and learning management systems (LMS) and the inefficiencies of using two different systems, such as higher purchasing costs as well as additional time involved in implementing, integrating and administering each. Vuepoint's software offers both LMS and LCMS capabilities in its fully integrated Vuepoint Learning System (VLS).

Summit 2001 also provided Vuepoint an opportunity to gather in-depth information on clients' future needs. When asked why clients chose Vuepoint's software over competitors', representatives from Toyota and A.T. Kearney stated that the authoring tool greatly factored into their decision as well as the company's ability to meet specific business needs.

"Everything we develop is driven by how easy we can make it for the author to use," said Ara Ohanian, CEO of Vuepoint. In keeping true to that promise, one of the features scheduled for the software's Q4 2001 upgrade will provide authors the freedom to decide whether or not they wish to tag content to create learning objects.
